Australian Football League (AFL) Live Collingwood Magpies vs Port Adelaide match will be kick off at MCG Stadium,Melbourne,Sunday 03 August 2014 online, 16:40 AEDT and its broadcast on Fox Footy.
Nathan Buckley could choose to wield the axe to his underperforming side with Luke Ball and Alan Toovey in the frame to return from injury. Josh Thomas, Alex Fasolo, Brodie Grundy and Sam Dwyer are in contention to get the call up from the VFL. For the Power, Ken Hinkley will be desperate to regain key defender Alipate Carlile and forward Angus Monfries from injury to halt their poor form. Andrew Moore is also in contention after good SANFL form. Speedster Matt White will miss with a groin complaint.
The Magpies have slipped out of the eight after their loss to Adelaide and will be desperate to remain in the finals race. Their form has been nothing short of pitiful in the last two months; having lost five of their past six matches – the only win coming against Carlton in round 15. They have a 3-6 record both head-to-head and against the line vs top-eight teams this season. Port Adelaide rank second in points per game this year and fourth in disposals and tackles. They have lost five of their past six games and only just scraped past Melbourne before the bye. They have a 8-1 record (5-4 against the line) vs bottom-ten teams this year. Although they have slipped to fifth on the ladder, they are only 0.8 per cent behind fourth-placed Freo.
Port Adelaide upset the Magpies in an elimination final last year. Starting as $4.60-outsiders they kicked four final quarter goals to two to seal the 24-point victory. Chad Wingard, Oli Wines, Jay Schulz and Travis Boak all kicked multiple goals in the win whilst Kane Cornes had 28 touches. For the Pies, Dane Swan had 22 possessions and three goals whilst Beams and Sidebottom had 29-touches each.
Collingwood and Port have played 24 times with the Magpies leading 13-11; but they have lost the last two games (both last year). Port Adelaide hold a 4-3 record over Collingwood at the MCG. Since 2010, the Pies are 4-2 (2-4 against the line) vs Port Adelaide. Collingwood is 27-15 at the MCG under Nathan Buckley but only 16-26 against the line in those games. The Power are 2-3-1 (5-1 against the line) at the MCG since the start of 2010 but won two out of their three games their last season.
