AFL Live Essendon Bombers vs Collingwood Magpies Stream AFL Football 2015 Online, AFL Round 4 Match will be kick off at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) Stadium, Melbourne, Australia Saturday 25 April 2015 online, 14.40pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.
The biggest home and away game for the year see the red hot Bombers take on a Collingwood side full of confidence after an easy win over the Saints.
The Pies are still without Ben Reid, Steele Sidebottom and Levi Greenwood from their best 22 with Taylor Adams a chance to come back whilst Jarrod Witts, Alex Fasolo and youngsters Jordan De Goey and Darcy Moore are also in the mix. For the Bombers, Adam Cooney will miss with a hamstring injury and David Zaharakis is in doubt with a knee injury. Will Hams, Courtenay Dempsey, Jackson Merrett and Kyle Langford have all pushed their cases in the twos.
The Bombers are one of the more in-form teams in the competition only just losing to Sydney before beating Hawthorn and Carlton. They rank fourth in marks and fifth in effective disposals and tackles this season. Their ability to keep the ball away from their opposition for long stretches has been crucial this season. Whilst the Pies beat Brisbane, lost to Adelaide and then took care of St Kilda last weekend to sit in sixth position. They rank third in tackles, 1st with inside 50s and contested possessions but 18th in marks per game and 14th in effective disposals.
Dane Swan v Ben Howlett – Swanny is an ANZAC Day pig, almost single-handedly winning the public holiday hit-out last year with 26 touches and four goals. He fine-tuned his preparation for this one with 39 touches and a goal against the Saints. He’s a big game performer who will need to be shut down for Essendon to win.
Essendon has faced Collingwood 230 times with the Pies leading the head-to-head match-up 126-100 with four draws. This is the 21st ANZAC Day clash with the Magpies holding the advantage 11-8 with one draw. The Magpies have won four of the last five matches on the public holiday (3-2 against the line). Since 2010, the Pies are 8-1 (7-2 against the line) vs the Bombers. Collingwood is 29-17 at the MCG under Nathan Buckley but only 18-28 against the line in those games. Essendon is 12-11-1 (12-12 against the line) at the MCG since the start of 2012.
Dane Swan ($9) averages 32 disposals and a goal in his last six matches against Essendon including winning the 2012 and 2014 Anzac medal. David Zaharakis ($14) is fast becoming an ANZAC Day specialist – kicking the winning goal in 2009 and winning the ANZAC Medal in 2013 after a best on ground performance of 34 touches and four goals. Scott Pendlebury ($8) has also won two ANZAC Medals.
The Magpies should be no match for Essendon in this one. The Bombers have been one of the most impressive sides this season with a gallant effort over Sydney followed up with a win over Hawthorn before putting their foot off the gas late against Carlton. The Pies have only beaten a disappointing Brisbane and horrible St Kilda outfit. They might lift for this big game but with one of the best spines in the league and a massive class advantage in the guts, expect Essendon to be far too strong.
