Collingwood are heavily fancied to win this one and have been posted as $1.07 favourites in the head to head betting with CrownBet, while Brisbane are at $8.
With the exception of an opening round victory over Gold Coast, the Lions have generally been ordinary this season and have dropped their last seven by an average margin of 50 points.
Chris Fagan’s side come off another blowout last weekend, going down to Adelaide by 80 points and will be hard pressed to trouble the Pies.
Optimistic Lions fans can point to the fact that they have shown glimpses in a number of their games. They led the Western Bulldogs by a big margin earlier in the year but those efforts have been few and far between.
The Magpies should be full of confidence after an amazing second half of football against Hawthorn at the MCG last Saturday night. Nathan Buckley’s side peeled back a 43-point deficit to win by 18 points and it was their midfielders that led the way with Scott Pendlebury, Taylor Adams and Adam Treloar in fine form.
That trio are part of the reason why Collingwood rank 5th in the competition for disposals and 3rd for clearances. Brisbane are 17th and 7th in these measures but in the absence of key playmaker, Tom Rockliff, they may struggle to win enough of the footy.
The home side will be desperate to improve their win-loss record of 3-6 and will be mindful of the fact they have dropped a couple of games that they have been expected to win but if they convert their opportunities they should notch up win No.4.
