West Coast Eagles vs Essendon Bombers match will be kickoff at Perth Stadium, Perth, Western Australia, Australia, Thursday 21 June 2018 online, 20:10 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.
Round 14 of the AFL home and away season gets underway on Thursday night when the West Coast Eagles play host to Essendon at Perth Stadium.
The June 21 encounter begins at 8.10PM AEST and all the action can be seen on Channel 7 and Fox Footy.
West Coast suffered just their second loss of the season last weekend, going down to the Sydney Swans by 15 points.
The Eagles previous defeat was in Round 1- also a loss to Sydney. That time it was by 29 points. In between those defeats, the Perth based side managed to win 10 on the trot and thrust themselves into premiership calculations.
It hasn’t been quite the same for Essendon. After playing finals in 2017, the Bombers were expected to be prominent this season. However, a poor start to the year has cost the red and black.
After eight rounds, John Worsfold’s side managed to win just two matches. They have since won three out of four and will need to continue that form if they are to scramble back up the ladder.
However, the task at hand looks tough. West Coast have a number of stars across all areas of the ground and rank highly in a number of statistical measures. The Eagles are averaging just under 100 points per game and rank 3rd in the competition for scoring. Essendon are 13th.
The Eagles rank No.1 in the competition for kicks and marks. They are 2nd for hitouts and 6th for clearances. Essendon are 10th and 12th in these measures.
The home side are likely to be without Josh Kennedy, which brings the Bombers into the contest somewhat. But with Nic Natanui, Jeremy McGovern, Elliot Yeo and Luke Shuey in the lineup, the Eagles should have the answers both in the air and at ground level.
Former West Coast premiership captain and coach, John Worsfold, who is now at the helm of Essendon, will need to find a way to cause an upset to keep the Dons season alive.
His recruits, Jake Stringer, Devon Smith and Adam Saad have been in good form, while Zach Merrett and David Myers found plenty of the footy in the recent win over Brisbane.
