West Coast will look to consolidate their first win on the road with a comfortable victory back at home.
West Coast took a step towards respectability with their first away win of the season against Port last week. This had followed home wins against Collingwood and St Kilda interspersed with a loss to Geelong on the road.
Gold Coast is coming off the worst four game stretch in their history, losing to Geelong, Melbourne, GWS and Adelaide by an average of 90 points, and conceding 157 points per game while doing so. It doesn’t get any easier taking on the Eagles at Subiaco.
The Eagles and Suns have met seven times, with the Gold Coast yet to win. The Eagles have won six, and their last meeting was a draw, in Round 18 last season. Josh Kennedy has been the highest goal-kicker on the ground in four of the last five meetings.
Gold Coast have covered the spread twice in their six games at Domain Stadium since entering the competition. They have only won one interstate match under Rodney Eade and are 25% ATS from 12 attempts.
West Coast have covered the spread in all five Perth games this year, and are yet to cover it away from home.
West Coast are going to win this game, with the margin the only question.
The Suns may be able to find some belief with some of their best players returning, but they were losing games by big margins with Ablett and Hall in the side previously, so perhaps the difference will be immaterial. Steven May will be welcomed to at least ensure Josh Kennedy isn’t given a free ride.
The Eagles have run up some big numbers at home, and the Suns have conceded some big numbers over the last month, so the result appears obvious from that point of view, but football often has a way of seeing the opposite happen.
Ultimately, West Coast are going to prove too seasoned across the ground, and the many Suns errors will be punished, with a multi-pronged forward-line ready to take full toll. Hard to find a really good bet though.
