Australian Football League Live Melbourne Demons vs Sydney Swans Stream AFL 2015 Seasons Week 06 math will be kick off at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) Stadium, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Saturday 09 May 2015 online, 19.20pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.
The Sydney Swans travel to Victoria to take on the Melbourne Demons at the MCG on Saturday.
Sydney will be livid following its loss to the Western Bulldogs last week, and Melbourne could not have faced the premiership contenders at a worse time.
After its stellar performance against Richmond in round four, Melbourne were belted from pillar-to-post against the high-flying Fremantle and will be looking for an improved performance against the Swans.
There’s no doubt that the Swans go into this one as favourites, but you simply cannot rule out the Demons if they bring the high pressure football they showed against the Tigers.
Can Melbourne produce a shock win? Or will the Swans bounce back?
Well, if you’re the Sydney Swans, you move on like it never happened.
Luke Parker insists his teammates have forgotten about last year’s humiliating 63-point grand final loss to Hawthorn.
They will get a reminder on Saturday when they return to the MCG for the first time since that fateful day to take on the improving Melbourne Demons.
“I don’t know if last year’s granny will give us some drive,” Parker said.
“Most of the boys have forgot it and we just want to win. We’re excited to get back to the G it’s the home of football, hopefully we’ll get a big crowd and the boys love playing there.”
The Paul Roos-coached Demons don’t have the intimidation factor Hawthorn does but after last week’s shock loss to the Western Bulldogs there will no complacency from John Longmire’s men.
“Roosy has a good structure and has them working really hard,” Parker said.
“You can see this season if you don’t show up you’re going to get beaten.”
Dan Hannebery was outstanding against the Bulldogs, picking up 37 disposals. Demons stopper Bernie Vince is almost certain to get the job on the talented midfielder, but Parker has a warning for his rival hard nut.
“If he gets Bernie Vince we have to let him know he’s in for a hard day,” Parker said.
“The main thing is we don’t just leave it up to Hanners, we don’t want to just worry about our own games we want to help each other out.”
As well as winning the midfield battle the Swans will need to clean up their disposal and ball handling which certainly cost them last week’s four points against the Bulldogs.
“We butchered the ball and they kicked 10 goals on the turnover,” Parker said.
“The effort needs to stay up for four quarters. We also need to clean up our structures, they (The Bulldogs) would walk out of the middle and come straight through. Going forward we were bombing it a lot into the big blokes and they were walking it out.”
The Swans will almost certainly look to replicate the high pressure game Fremantle used so effectively last week on the Demons. The Dockers handed them a 68 point thrashing without star forwards Matthew Pavlich and Michael Walters for most of the game with concussion.
“It’s the pressure of Freo,” Parker said.
“They’re such a great defensive team and they don’t just worry about themselves, they work as a group and the back six are great on the turnovers.”
