AFL Live Gold Coast Suns vs Melbourne Demons Stream AFL Football 2016 Online, AFL Round 07 Match will be kick off at Metricon Stadium, Carrara, Queensland, Australia, Saturday 07 May 2016 online, 17.10 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.
A crucial game between two sides eyeing off a lower eight spot, and looking to rediscover their form.
Gold Coast have dropped Ryan Davis and Mackenzie Willis, along with losing Trent McKenzie, but bring in the speed of Adam Saad and Jarrod Garlett, as well as first-gamer Darcy McPherson, son of ex-Bulldog Steve, who played 188 games through the 80’s and 90’s.
Melbourne lose Heritier Lumumba and Christian Salem to concussion, and drop talls Lynden Dunn and Sam Frost in search of more run. Colin Garland comes in play key defence, along with Clayton Oliver, Billy Stretch and Viv Michie.
Gold Coast has hit a wall, with three successive losses, each worse than the last, after their bright opening to the season. They were humiliated and embarrassed down at Geelong last week, producing the worst performance of any side this year.
Melbourne are proving to be inconsistent in the early stages of 2016, and couldn’t back up underdog wins over Collingwood and Richmond with a victory over St Kilda as favourites. Their bad football is a lot better than it was last year though.
Have we written off Gary Ablett? I for one haven’t. After a week in the media about Ablett ‘not going hard enough at the footy’, expect Gaz to answer his critics this week. He’s paying potentially the highest he ever has for most touches ($4) and double your money if he can get 30+. Aaron Hall can’t be ignored though paying $3 for most Fantasy points. The kid has been lighting it up and has produced some huge numbers on his home ground this year. The Saints scored 5×100+ scores against the Demons last week and Hall will dominate once again.
Gold Coast and Melbourne have met seven times, with the Suns holding sway 4-3. Results have gone to both home and away sides, but they have only met once at Metricon, in 2013 when Gold Coast won 90-77.
The Suns have won exactly half their games at Metricon since the start of 2012, at +10% POT and 58% ATS. Against Victorian sides, these numbers jump to 14 wins from 19 matches, at +76% POT and 63% ATS.
Under Paul Roos, Melbourne has won one of twelve interstate, and are 42% ATS. When starting $2 or less under Roos, at all grounds, the Demons are one from nine, at -85% POT and 11% ATS.
The toughest match of the week to predict, given Melbourne have played the better football over the first six week block, but they are statistically poor travellers and Gold Coast are strong at home.
Both sides were disappointing last week, and will be desperate to atone in what will be seen as a very winnable game, so the mental side of professional sport will play a part too.
The Demons have a clear edge in the ruck, and are better placed to quell Tom Lynch than the Suns are Jesse Hogan. Gold Coast are going to need Ablett and Hall back to their best after they’ve dropped off in recent weeks.
