AFL 2014 Live Carlton Blues vs Geelong Cats match will be kick off at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne,Friday 15 August 2014 online, Time 19:50 AEDT and its broadcast on Fox Footy.
After these two teams gave us an absolute treat when they played in Round 12, we can only hope for more the same. Since then, the Blues have seen their finals hopes fade away as they find themselves sitting behind the chasing pack, while the Cats have found their claws and are now pushing for at top-2 finish.
The Blues may be lacking some crucial run off halfback with an injury cloud hanging over Chris Yarran, after he was substituted last week with a calf injury – Dennis Armfield seems the logical replacement. Youngsters Patrick Cripps and Blaine Johnson, who both kicked a pair of goals in the reserves last week, look to push for selection. Geelong superstar, Steve Johnson looks to be in doubt for the Friday night clash after he was spotted in crutches at training. Josh Walker will be pushing for a game after a B.O.G. performance in the reserves.
The Cats are in the process of proving their September credentials. Punctuated by a tough 2-point win at home against the Dockers and handily dealing with North Melbourne the week before, Geelong are starting to hit their straps. Expect the Cats to show some signs of fatigue late in the match after their tough win last week and the short turnaround. Much to the dismay of their coach, the Blues continue to mix their form. They took care of an Ablett-less Gold Coast outfit and got within five points of the Dockers in Fremantle a fortnight ago. This however, followed a 71-point drubbing at the hands of the Swans the week before.
After the Blues fought back to establish a 16-point lead at the 11-minute mark of the final quarter, it was the Cats, led by skipper Joel Selwood who came home the strong when these teams clashed in Round 12 this year. Another Friday Night special, it was a 29-minute goal from the inspirational Geelong captain that saw the Cats take back the lead and hang on to win 107 -102. This capped off an outstanding performance for Selwood who ended up with 10 clearances and disposed at 89% efficiency. Bryce Gibbs was massive for the Blues in that game racking up 29 disposals and slotting 4 goals, while for the Geelong, Tom Hawkins took four contested marks and kicked four straight.
