AFL Live St Kilda Saints vs GWS Giants Stream AFL Football 2016 Online, AFL Round 05 Match will be kick off at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne, Victoria , Australia, Sunday 24 April 2016 online, 13.10 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.
St Kilda are playing good footy and improving before our eyes, while GWS have been Giants at home but minnows away so far this season.
Eli Templeton is the only confirmed omission from the Saints, and Luke Dunstan or Jimmy Webster look the likely candidates to replace him.
Star forward Jeremy Cameron will come back in for GWS, at the expense of Adam Tomlinson, who hasn’t been doing enough when he’s had his chance. Devon Smith will also come back into the side, with an unlucky running player to be dropped.
St Kilda gave the Hawks a fright down in Tasmania last week but couldn’t get the job done, which is not unexpected at this stage of their development. They are playing honest football, and will trouble sides that bring inconsistent effort against them.
GWS are coming off a statement game against Port, but now have to back it up and prove they can win on the road when they are expected to against tricky opposition. They like to employ speed of ball movement with hard running, but consistency of mindset is what they need most.
St Kilda have a 3-2 historical edge over GWS, but the Giants won both clashes last year. Jeremy Cameron was the leading goal-kicker on the ground in each of those wins.
GWS have only won five from 24 on the road under Leon Cameron, at -48% POT. They have only covered the line once in six matches at Etihad across 2014-16.
This match shapes as a test of the Giants’ maturity more than their talent or skill.
St Kilda bring effort and pressure as their non-negotiables, and fancy themselves to claim another scalp. Even though they fell short against Hawthorn last week, they should derive confidence that they can match anyone. They just need to tidy up their skills in the critical moments.
GWS will look to utilize run and overlap, and piercing ball movement to break open the Saints through the middle. If they are allowed enough time and space, they can put a game away quickly. If they’ve gotten ahead of themselves after a big win, then the Saints will find them out.
The Giants may well be 3-1 or even 4-0 if Jeremy Cameron didn’t get suspended in the pre-season. Expect him to come in and have an immediate impact.
