Australian Football League Live Brisbane Lions vs Gold Coast Suns Stream AFL 2016 Seasons Week 04 math will be kick off at Gabba Stadium, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, Saturday 16 April 2016 online, 16.35 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.
Brisbane winless, Gold Coast yet to lose. One of those storylines was expected coming into this season, the other not so.
Brisbane is very much advantaged gaining Daniel Rich in place of six gamer Billy Evans, but they are still missing Dayne Beams and Tom Rockliff.
Gold Coast loses key defender Rory Thompson to an ankle injury, with Keegan Brooksby taking his place. Also out are running defender Trent McKenzie and small forward Brandon Matera for Touk Miller and Callum Ah Chee.
Brisbane have faced a torrid start to the season, facing three of the top six premiership favourites in the opening rounds. They’ve given a respectable account of themselves given their obvious class and injury limitations, and despite being last on the ladder, rank 13th for points scored.
Gold Coast have been something of a surprise packet, but have also faced a string of sides (Essendon, Fremantle and Carlton) that only has one win between them so far. Still, they have played a bright and energetic brand of footy, led by Gary Ablett and Aaron Hall in the middle, and Tom Lynch and Jack Martin up forward.
Brisbane are yet to cover the spread in 2016 so far, running at 0-3. Gold Coast are the opposite, at 3-0. Both sides are 2-1 at the over to open the season.
There have been 10 Q-Clashes, with Brisbane winning six. Both sides have covered the line 50% of the time in these matches, and the over/under has been split 50/50 too. Gold Coast have only covered the spread in one of their last four matches at the Gabba, but are the best side in the competition at it this year, being an aggregate 104.5 points ahead of the spread.
While Brisbane are scoring okay given the opposition they’ve been up against, they are getting pummelled the other way, conceding 3-4 goals a game more than the second worst defence. Gold Coast have been scoring freely against inferior opposition, ranked fourth in attack thanks to Lynch and Martin, coming first and seventh respectively in the Coleman medal race.
The Lions don’t have anyone to go with Hall and Ablett, and are not well set-up to prevent the Suns run off half-back either. Still, Mitch Robinson, Dayne Zorko and Pearce Hanley are a handy trio in their own right, and Daniel Rich being back helps.
