Australian Football League Live Geelong Cats vs GWS Giants Stream AFL 2016 Seasons Week 11 match will be kick off at Simonds Stadium, South Geelong, Victoria, Australia, Saturday 04 June 2016 online, 16.35 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.
Two top four sides on the rebound, both with something to prove.
The Cats have fallen in a hole after their six game winning streak. Off the back of strong wins over contenders like West Coast and Adelaide, they have been weak against Collingwood and Carlton. In each game a lack of intensity has appeared to be the main factor.
GWS had their bubble burst in Adelaide against the Crows last week after a string of good wins, including significant scalps like the Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn. Their best football has looked as good as any this season.
This is the first return match of sides that have already met this season. GWS beat Geelong for the first time in their history in Round 2 earlier this year. The Cats had won the previous four clashes. The only time they have met at Simonds Stadium was in the Giants first year, when Geelong won by 65 points.
The Cats have covered the spread in every game at Simonds Stadium this year. They have only lost one game there to non-Victorian sides since the start of 2014, for +26% POT and 75% ATS.
The interstate record of GWS is improving every year, and this is the first season they are tracking at a positive POT. They are 63% ATS over the last year and a half.
GWS proved too strong in Round 2 when the sides met, but Geelong should have been further in front than they were at quarter time, and also came back hard in the last term. They were lacklustre in-between, which is still a problem, and the Giants ran them ragged.
Geelong’s midfield is deep enough, but doesn’t have quite the depth of the Giants, while the Cats have a little bit more cream on top. GWS has more scoring options, including Steve Johnson playing against his old club for the first time.
A tough match to get a read on, but the home ground advantage looks to be a significant and decisive factor, and the odds on GWS probably aren’t enough to back against it.
