Australian Football League (AFL) Live Sydney Swans vs Richmond Tigers match will be kick off at ANZ Stadium, Sydney,Saturday 30 August 2014 online, 16:40 AEDT and its broadcast on Fox Footy.
Will the Tigers Cinderella story continue as they strive for their ninth consecutive win to seal a finals berth. The Swans have won four straight and ominously, their big two (Buddy & Tippett) moved the best they have all year last weekend!
The Swans should welcome back a few of their stars for this one with Sam Reid and Ben McGlynn like to return whilst Josh Kennedy and Craig Bird may rest another week – all four are in the best 22 and must pass fitness tests. Whilst the Tigers will need Dustin Martin firing on all cylinders after missing last week with a hamstring complaint. Tall forward Ty Vickery is able to return after completing his suspension.
The Tigers continue their dominant form last week with a comfortable, but not spectacular, win over St Kilda – they’ve now won eight in a row including wins over Port, Adelaide, the Eagles and Essendon. Though they’re just 2-7 (5-4 against the line) vs top eight sides this season. Sydney is 7-3 (5-5 against the line) vs top-8 teams this year. The Swans rank third in points for and first for least points conceded this year.
It wasn’t much of a spectacle the last time these two sides met in round 14 with the Swans winning by just 11-points. In fact, it was the last time Richmond tasted defeat! Lance Franklin kicked four goals opposed to Alex Rance whilst Sam Reid and Kieren Jack both chipped in with two apiece. For the Tigers, Cotchin, Houli, Ellis and Martin all had over 30 disposals but Jack Riewoldt was restricted to just two goals in the low scoring affair. Richmond led at half-time and at the last change before being held goalless in the final term.
Richmond and Sydney have played 189 times with the Tigers leading 103-85 with one draw. They have split their last six games 3-3. Since 2010, Sydney is 4-3 (but only 2-5 against the line) vs the Tigers since the start of 2010. The Swans are 28-19 all-time at ANZ Stadium. Since the start of 2013, they are 3-3 (2-4 against the line) at the venue. Richmond has played once at ANZ Stadium, losing by 40-points in 2002. Richmond is 5-3 against the line over their eight game winning streak – they have started outsiders in four of those games. None of the last seven Sydney-Richmond games have tallied over 174-points.
