It was a case of ‘what ifs’ for both the Giants and Lions in Round 5. The Giants looked to be in control midway through the final term against the Saints at Etihad Stadium. The Saints kicked the last three goals of the game and very nearly pinched it against the Giants, with Jake Carlisle dropped a mark that would’ve given him a shot after the siren.

The Brisbane Lions came agonisingly close to their first win of 2018 in the ‘Q Clash’ against the Gold Coast Suns in Round 5. The Suns were up by as much as 27 points in the third quarter before a resurgent Lions team came with a flurry.

The Lions pulled the margin back to within 5 points midway through the final term and had all the play, with the Suns seemingly out on their feet. This young Lions team lacked composure and it cost them late, with skill errors and judgement errors costing them the victory.

It’s been a mixed bag in 2018 for the Lions, who despite being 0-5, have put up tremendous fights against the Suns, Port Adelaide in Adelaide and St Kilda in Melbourne. They have also played some of the worst football you are likely to see, scoring only 17 points against Richmond in what was, a 93-point thrashing.

The Giants return to Spotless Stadium for the first time in 2018 and their home crowd will be expecting a victory. The Giants won seven of their nine matches at Spotless last season and that winning trend looks set to continue against this winless Brisbane side.

The Giants forward line looks a matchup nightmare for Brisbane, with the likes of Jeremy Cameron and Jonathon Patton. The Lions have struggled to stop strong forwards this season, with Jesse Hogan kicking 5 goals in Round 4 and Dustin Martin kicking 6 goals in Round 5.

The forwards for the Giants dominated in their matchup against the Lions last year at the Gabba. The Giants scored 22 goals on their way to a 60-point victory. Cameron, Patton and Greene all kicked four goals a piece.

It’s an important week for two of the Brisbane Lions stars. Both Dayne Zorko and Daniel Rich are listed as tests for the match against the Giants. The word around the club is Zorko should be fine to go with his elbow injury, while Rich is a chance to play as long as he gets through training on Thursday.

Rory Lobb (Knee), Josh Kelly (Groin) and Zac Langdon (Hand) all missed last week’s match against St Kilda, however all are likely to face Brisbane as long as they get through the Giants main training session.

The Giants have dominated the Lions in recent years, winning their last four encounters dating back to Round 13, 2014. In their last two matches against the Lions, The Giants have kicked exactly 22.14 (146).

The average winning margin for the Giants in their last four matches against Brisbane is 53.5 points, with three of those games being played at the Gabba.

It’s Q-Clash time! Despite boasting possibly the worst name for a Derby in sporting history, the match between the Lions and the Suns at the Gabba on Sunday afternoon should actually be a close contest. Brisbane are yet to get off the board this season, while the Suns started with a bang after consecutive wins to open the season. Stuart Dew has finally got all the Gold Coast boys singing to the same tune- they are nowhere near the lazy bunch of misfits they were under Rodney Eade and look to relish the defensive press Dew has them playing. The Lions have also looked more competitive in 2018, save for the horrible 93 point thrashing last week at the hands of Richmond. The Lions usually save their best for the Gabba, and the Suns will be refreshed after a fortnight in Perth- so expect a tight, see-sawing tussle in this one.

Brisbane (LLLL) – The Lions put in an insipid performance last round against the Tigers, one week after they almost pulled off the upset of the year against Port Adelaide. They pulled out their lowest ever score in Lions history, in what were pretty reasonable conditions for footy. Before that though, the Lions looked full of fight, with Stefan Martin an absolute colossus through the ruck.

Gold Coast (WWLL) – The Suns were absolutely belted by the Eagles last round, but it was clear the young side looked absolutely exhausted and were, as such, out-classed. In their two wins, they looked to be a side full of run and defensive endeavour- forcing skill errors from the opposition and taking advantage with good delivery into Tom Lynch.

The Wolf is expecting a cracking contest, with both sides very well matched up against each other- as the odds reflect. Gold Coast will appreciate being back in the Sunshine State, though, and look a far more cohesive unit than the Lions. Toss of the coin, but Wolfie is backing the Suns to outrun the Lions and steal the Q-Clash spoils.

AFL Live Richmond Tigers vs Brisbane Lions Streaming Free 2018 Regular Seasons week 04 match will be kick off at MCG Stadium, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, Saturday 14 Apri 2018 online, 14:10 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

The Richmond Tigers take on the Brisbane Lions at the MCG on Saturday April 14, one of five games for the day and the action gets underway at the traditional time slot of 2.10PM.

The Tigers head in as firm favourites for the encounter but the Lions pushed the undefeated Port Adelaide last weekend and are not without a chance. Fox Sports 3 will broadcast the game live.

This one pits last year’s premiers, Richmond, up against the wooden spooners, Brisbane, and the odds are understandably skewed in favour of the yellow and black.

Damien Hardwick’s side have been good so far this year, displaying their class in wins over Carlton and Hawthorn, while dropping their tough Round 2 match on the road against Adelaide.

Brisbane have shown some positive signs but have been unable to break through for a win. They were in contention deep into their first two games before going down to St Kilda in Round 1 and Melbourne in Round 2, before just missing out by five points against Port Adelaide last weekend.

Chris Fagan’s side can take some momentum into this week’s game. His side rank 2nd in the competition for clearances, while Richmond are 13th in this measure. Stefan Martin has been brilliant in the ruck and should give the Lions first use of the footy.

However, the Lions blue collar midfield that boasts Dayne Zorko and Mitch Robinson will need to be at their absolute best to match the likes of Dustin Martin and Trent Cotchin.

Those two have been amongst the best players so far this season for Richmond, while it is the Tigers pressure that has once again been a barrier for their opposition to overcome.

AFL Live Port Adelaide Power vs Brisbane Lione Streaming Free 2018 Regular Seasons week 03 match will be kick off at Adelaide Oval Stadium, North Adelaide, Australia, Saturday 07 Apri 2018 online, 13:45 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

It’s a tale of two sides in this Round 3 matchup between Port Adelaide and Brisbane. The Power have started perfectly, sitting second on the ladder while the young Lions remain winless.

Port Adelaide and Brisbane will face off at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday. All the action can be caught on Fox Footy from 1:30pm (AEST).

Port Adelaide have been ultra impressive in their 2-0 start in 2018. They racked up 439 deposials in their Round 1 victory over Fremantle, winning all four quarters to run out 50-point winners.

It was Port Adelaide’s scrappy victory over Sydney at the SCG that has stamped them as genuine contenders in 2018. The first half was a typical Sydney match. It was low scoring and the Swans held a comfortable 14-point lead.

I was watching this game live and Port Adelaide simply went to another level after half time. Their attack and intent on the footy against a Sydney team who prides themselves on exactly that, was tremendous. Ollie Wines finished with a game-high 35 possessions while Robbie Grey had 26 touches and 10 tackles.

It was a case of Rinse and Repeat for Lions fans, who although, must be pleased with the effort from the young Squad, can’t help but feel they’ve missed two key chances in their season. Slow starts, spirited comebacks and fourth quarter fade outs are becoming all too common.

Brisbane didn’t come to play for the first half against Melbourne, finding themselves 43 points down into the third-quarter. The Lions finally responded, kicking seven goals to one in a 20-minute period, including three straight from new recruit Charlie Cameron.

The Lions leveled the score midway through the final quarter, but again faded late, allowing Melbourne to kick five of the last six goals and record a 26-point victory.

AFL Live Brisbane Lions vs Melbourne Demons Streaming Free 2018 Regular Seasons week 02 match will be kick off at The Gabba Stadium, Woolloongabba, Australia, Saturday 31 March 2018 online, 19:25 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

AFL Live Stream

Both Brisbane and Melbourne started their 2018 season with a loss. Both sides will be desperate to notch a victory when they clash at the Gabba on Easter Saturday at 7:25pm (AEDT).

Despite the Lions playing at home, Melbourne will start hot favourites. You can catch all the action live on Fox Footy.

Melbourne suffered a heartbreaking loss against Geelong in Round 1. The Dees dominated the play in the last quarter, but couldn’t capitalise, kicking 1.7 including the late miss by ruckman Max Gawn that would’ve given the Dees a memorable victory.

The Demons dominated the Inside 50’s, 64 to 41, but will rue a poor second quarter, allowing Geelong to kick seven goals and set up a 27-point lead at halftime.

I was really impressed with what I saw from this young Brisbane Lions team against the Saints at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The Saints skipped out to an early 19-point lead at quarter time, but the young Lions team weren’t rattled. They controlled the inside game, winning clearances 44 to 27 and looked a genuine winning chance late in the final term before the Saints run just proved too strong, winning by 25 points.

New recruit Luke Hodge made an immediate impact at his new club, giving the Lions defence some stability while finishing with 25 possessions and five marks. Hodge’s cool head down back should help the Lions in 2018.

The Demons have beaten the Lions in their last three encounters, however all three of those matches were at the MCG, where the Lions usually only play once or twice a year. The most recent of which was Round 22, 2017. The Dees looked like running away with the game in the final term, reaching a 33-point lead before the Lions came roaring back, kicking four goals in eight minutes to cut the margin to only seven points. Jesse Hogan was the hero, kicking six goals as Melbourne held on for a 13-point victory.

The Dees haven’t played at the Gabba since Round 14 2012. On this day, the Lions proved far too good, winning by 61 points.

AFL Live St Kilda Saints vs Brisbane Lions Streaming Free 2018 Regular Seasons week 01 match will be kick off at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne, VIC, Australia, Saturday 24 March 2018 online, 15:35 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

St Kilda has expectation on their shoulders in 2018 and will be looking to start the season with a bang against the Brisbane Lions at Etihad Stadium on Saturday March 24.

St Kilda head into the clash against the Lions as hot favourites. All the action can be seen on Fox Sports 3 at 3:30pm.

The Saints have returned to their spiritual home Moorabbin just in time for the 2018 season. The timing is fitting for the Saints, their last season at Moorabbin was back in 2009. They finished on top of the AFL ladder with 20 wins and very nearly won a premiership before moving to Seaford in 2010.

After the retirements of Nick Riewoldt and Leigh Montagna last season, that era is now over. It’s a new beginning for the young squad led by coach Alan Richardson. The expectation by Media and Saints fans alike, is that the Saints will play Finals footy in 2018.

This young Saints squad has shown terrific progression under Richardson in his four years at the helm. They finished with only 4 wins in 2014, 6 wins in 2015, 12 wins in 2016 and 11 wins last season.

The Saints dropped both their JLT matches, losing by 22 points to Carlton and 26 points against the Dees. The Lions also dropped both their matches, losing by 55 points against the Swans and taking a narrow seven-point loss over the Gold Coast Suns. The Lions kicked 4 goals and 18 behinds, finishing with eight more scoring shots than the Suns.

The Brisbane Lions are finally going in the right direction with their young talent, however Lions fans should expect another tough year, with the roster still needing time to develop.

It was a volatile off season for the Lions, who lost former captain Tom Rockliff to Port Adelaide and former number two draft pick Josh Schache to the Western Bulldogs. The Lions did pick up retired Hawthorn legend Luke Hodge, who will help the young Lions growth tremendously.

Watch AFL JLT Series Live Brisbane Lions vs Sydney Swans Saints Streaming Free 2018 AFL Pre Seasons match will be kick off at Moreton Bay Lions Football club, Burpengary, Queensland, Australia, Saturday 03 March 2018 online, 15:35 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

The Brisbane Lions and Sydney Swans will have their first hit out of the JLT Community Series at Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 4:35pm (AEDT).

Brisbane, with a number of changes again in the off-season, want to continue building a winning culture at the club this year.

As for the Swans, after a slow start to their 2017 campaign, they’ll be keen to be up and about early this year and looked impressive in a practice match against crosstown rivals Greater Western Sydney last Friday.

Brisbane will unveil 2017 number one draft pick, Cameron Rayner, for his first match. Supporters can expect to see Rayner play up forward as part of a fairly small line-up, with Eric Hipwood the only tall forward.

Fans will also be intrigued to see Charlie Cameron in his first game as a Lion. The ex-Adelaide player has been named in the centre, which has lost experience with Tom Rockliff’s departure to Port Adelaide.

Brisbane will be without Dayne Beams, Dayne Zorko and Luke Hodge, with defender Harris Andrews leading the side as skipper.

Meanwhile, Sydney have selected a very strong team.

Headlined by Lance Franklin at full-forward, the team includes five of the club’s seven-man leadership group – Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker, Dane Rampe, Nick Smith and Kieren Jack.

The only pre-season recruit named is running defender Ryley Stoddart, who was taken at pick 53 in last year’s draft. Dan Hannebery, Heath Grundy, Jarrad McVeigh and Zak Jones will not play due to injury concerns.

Brisbane’s kids may be improving and will start to challenge teams this year, but in this pre-season game more interest will surround how threatening the Swans are for the 2018 season.

Prediction
Sydney has named a side far too strong for Brisbane to compete with. The Swans will take a comfortable victory here.

Brisbane Lions vs North Melbourne Kangaroos match will be kickoff at Gabba, Brisbane, QLD, Australia, Saturday 26 August 2017 online, 14:10 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

Brisbane sit last on the ladder but only on percentage. They have the worst defence in the AFL but rank 13th in scoring. The Lions have been good over the last five weeks with two wins and two losses by 14 or less. Brisbane have posted at least 89 in four of their last five games.

North Melbourne have won just one of their last 11 matches and have conceded at least 107 points in seven of their last nine outings. They have just five wins for the season and rank 10th in scoring and 17th in defence. North have failed to post 80 in four of their last six.

The fight to avoid the wooden spoon comes down to one game for both sides as 18th-placed Brisbane Lions take on 17th-ranked North Melbourne in their last game of the home and away season.

The loser of the game ends up bottom of the pile for 2017, but picks up the number one draft…so who will suffer a bitter-sweet afternoon at the Gabba?

Despite going down by 13 points to Melbourne Demons last weekend, Brisbane have caught the eye somewhat in the second half of the season and are strong favourites to end the year on a high in front of their home fans.

North Melbourne, on the other hand, have endured a the second half of the campaign to forget, with just one victory in the last 11 games for the Kangaroos with the latest defeat coming against St Kilda last weekend.

The turnaround in form has left both sides with identical 5-16 records although North have a clear advantage in terms of percentage should this one end in an unlikely draw.

Can they muster one final effort and avoid the wooden spoon? Or will it be Brisbane who lift off bottom spot on Saturday afternoon?

North Melbourne lose Jack Ziebell, Brayson Preuss and Taylor Garner to injuries while concussion sidelines Daniel Nielson. Cameron Zurhaar is dropped with debutant Ben McKay, Jed Anderson, Lachlan Hansen, Lindsay Thomas and Aaron Mullett all coming in.

AFL Live Melbourne Demons vs Brisbane Lions Streaming Free 2017 Regular Seasons Round 22 match will be kick off at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, VIC, Australia, Sunday 20 August 2017 online, 13:10 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

The game gets underway at 1.10pm AEST and will be broadcast on Fox Footy, while AFL Live Vision is also available to ALL CrownBet members. Every Match, wherever you are.

Sitting in seventh place heading into the penultimate weekend of the home and away season, Melbourne Demons know a win over the Brisbane Lions will leave fate in their own hands.

Victory at the MCG on Sunday would not only keep the chasing pack at bay for another week, it will also mean the Demons would go into next weekend’s clash with Collingwood knowing they need no outside help to seal a top 8 berth.

The Dees came through one crunch game last weekend when defeating finals rivals St Kilda and they start as clear favourites to defeat the Lions.

Brisbane have something to play for themselves having posted improved efforts over the last month, and they can now move off bottom spot with a victory over the Demons.

They won the Q-Clash with the Gold Coast Suns last weekend to join Carlton on five wins for the campaign and the Lions could yet pull off the unlikely and avoid the wooden spoon.

In what was previously a wooden spoon clash between the sides, the added important and home advantage should just see the Dees across the line but it won’t be by much against this improving Lions side.

Jesse Hogan returns for Melbourne Demons and Billy Stretch is also named. Jack Viney misses out with a foot injury and Sam Weideman is left out.

Just one change for the Brisbane Lions sees Alex Witherden come in for Cedric Cox.

Brisbane sit on bottom spot on the AFL ladder with just four wins under their belt in season 2017, while Gold Coast are in 15th position with six wins. Of the two, there is some argument to suggest that the Suns have been the most disappointing.

Their now former coach, Rodney Eade, is the first victim of their poor campaign and was ousted as coach earlier in the week. Dean Solomon will take over in the coachers box and will need to find the right formula to snap the Suns five game losing streak. Last weekend they endured a 23-point loss to Fremantle in Perth.

Earlier on the same day, Brisbane pushed last year’s premiers, the Western Bulldogs, at the GABBA before eventually going down by 14. Chris Fagan’s young side led the Dogs in the last quarter but couldn’t quite seal the deal.

They return to their home ground to take on their local rivals and have been posted at the odds of $1.83 with CrownBet to make it win number five for the year, while the Suns are $1.95.

With little separating the two sides in the head to head market, picking a winner looks tough, but the Lions may be the ones to go for, provided they can string together four consistent quarters.

They have a slightly healthier list at this time of the year and a host of their senior players are in good form, including Tom Rockliff, Dayne Zorko, Dayne Beams and Daniel Rich.

Gold Coast will always be a chance in this as the Lions have conceded more points than any other side in the competition and they are likely to get on top in the disposal count.

Gary Ablett and Pearce Hanley will have an influence, while Peter Wright and Tom Lynch could find themselves amongst the goals up forward. The added X-factor will be how the Suns perform under their caretaker coach as in the past, some sides have rebounded after a changing of the guard.

Brisbane will lose Alex Witherden after the halfback sustained a hamstring injury last weekend, while Sam Mayes may return. Gold Coast will be without as stack of players, including Aaron Hall, while David Swallow remains in doubt.
