Adelaide finished on top of the ladder at the end of the home and away season and advanced through to the Prelim after demolishing GWS in week one of the finals by 36 points.

Geelong finished in 2nd position after the regular season but experienced a hiccup in their corresponding game in the first week, going down to Richmond by 51. However, the Cats bounced back in emphatic fashion by knocking over the highly fancied Sydney outfit by 59 points last weekend.

The Crows have had the benefit of a week off, as well as the home ground advantage, and have been posted at the odds of $1.38 in the early head to head betting with CrownBet, while Geelong are at $3.10.

Adelaide’s strengths have been well documented and they were the highest scoring side during the home and away season, averaging 109 points per game. Eddie Betts, Taylor Walker and Josh Jenkins feature in the top 18 players for goals scored this season and are sure to be prominent throughout the night.

However, Geelong looked formidable in attack last week with the former Crow, and reigning Brownlow Medalist, Patrick Dangerfield leading the way with four goals.

It will be interesting to see if Dangerfield lines up in the forward line again. Geelong may go conservative and start the champ in the middle, but his presence in front of goal adds plenty of X-factor and frees up the likes of Tom Hawkins and Daniel Menzel.

In the middle of the ground, Rory Sloane and the Crouch brothers take on the likes of Geelong’s skipper, Joel Selwood, as well as Mitch Duncan and Sam Menegola.

Geelong finished in 2nd position on the AFL ladder at the end of the home and away season but were shell-shocked in the first week of the finals, going down to Richmond by 51 points in the Qualifying Final.

They face a fight for survival against Sydney, who were far too classy for Essendon in the Elimination Final, defeating the Bombers by 65 points.

The Swans were 6th at the conclusion of the regular year but have won 15 of their last 17 and head into this as $1.40 favourites in the early head to head betting with CrownBet.

John Longmire’s midfield contingent were brutal against Essendon, while Lance Franklin put on a bit of a show up forward, booting four goals.

Geelong have some work to do to turn things around but the good news for Cats fans is that, historically, sides that lose Qualifying Finals tend to bounce back in the Semis. Another positive is that Geelong rank well in a number of statistical measures compared to the Swans.

Chris Scott’s side just shade Sydney in the disposal and contested possession count this season, while they have also been better at winning the clearances.

Patrick Dangerfield is sure to have an influence, while Joel Selwood should be a bit of an improver after producing a sub-par performance in his return from injury last week. Mitch Duncan shapes as an important player, while Sam Menegola is another that needs to lift.

That quartet face the likes of Josh Kennedy, Daniel Hannebery, Luke Parker and Kieren Jack in the middle of the ground and will need big games if their side are to cause an upset.

However, there are plenty of other factors that would point to a Sydney win. The Swans seem to have too much depth around the ground and are in the better form at this time of the year. They also have a terrific recent record over Geelong.

This shapes as an absolute beauty and not much separates the sides in the CrownBet head to head betting. Geelong are currently a $1.75 favourite ahead of Richmond at $2.10.

The Cats won their last three games of the home and away season, including the Round 21 clash at Simonds Stadium against Richmond by 14 points. They then defeated Collingwood at the MCG by 11 points before touching up GWS to the tune of 44 in Round 23.

Following their loss to Geelong in Round 21, the Tigers responded in style by chalking up two big wins over Fremantle and St Kilda. They have won six of their past seven and should be better suited at the MCG.

Damien Hardwick’s side will be looking to bury some recent September ghosts and will not only need big games from Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin, Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt but a host of their younger players as well.

Daniel Rioli and Jason Castagna are among a number of players that are making their finals debut and this duo will look to put a stack of pressure on the opposition defenders, something that has been a hallmark of the 2017 Tigers.

At Geelong, we can expect big games from seasoned champions in Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood, while the likes of Sam Menegola and Mitch Duncan will complement that duo beautifully in the midfield.

The clash in this part of the ground will be mouth-watering, particularly with the likes of Dangerfield and Martin going head to head. Geelong rank slightly higher for contested possessions and clearances, but the Tigers are the better defensive side.

Of interest will be the plan that Chris Scott has in store for Alex Rance. The key Tigers defender had a rare poor game the last time the two sides met, with Harry Taylor taking the points. Rance will either line up on Taylor again or Tom Hawkins, who was absent the last time the two sides met.

Richmond will be out to break one of the longest hoodoo’s in modern day football as they have not beaten Geelong since 2006. The Cats have won the past 13 clashes between the two sides, including the Round 21 encounter this season by 14 points at Simonds Stadium.

Five of the 13 games in the Cats winning streak have been held at the MCG. The two sides last squared off in in a final way back in 1995 and on that occasion, it was Geelong by 89 points.

Australian Football League Live Geelong Cats vs GWS Giants Live Stream Free, AFL 2017 Seasons Week 23 Stream. Geelong Cats vs GWS Giants match will be kickoff at Simonds Stadium, Geelong, VIC, Australia, Saturday 26 August 2017 online, 19:25 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

Both sides sit safely inside the top four and have secured the double chance. They seem destined to play successive matches against each other with the winner of this clash possibly set to host the other side in a Qualifying Final in a fortnight’s time.

GWS are second on the ladder and Geelong are third. The highest ranked side will host a final later on, with their opponents to be determined by some of the other results over the weekend.

The Giants defeated West Coast in their Round 22 clash by 21 points but head in as slight underdogs in the head to head betting with CrownBet. Geelong come off an 11-point win over Collingwood at the MCG and have won three of their past four. Their only loss in that time period came at Simonds Stadium against Sydney.

The battle between the respective midfields shapes as a beauty. Patrick Dangerfield looms as a match winner for the home side and with Mitch Duncan, Scott Selwood and Sam Menegola in the line-up the Cats will look to thwart the likes of Josh Kelly, Lachie Whitfield, Callan Ward and Tom Scully.

Both sides are among the top echelon of sides when it comes to scoring and Toby Greene, Jeremy Cameron and Jonathan Patton loom as key options for the Giants, while at the other end it will be Tom Hawkins and Daniel Menzel that will be the focal points for Geelong.

A key for Geelong will be getting off to a fast start. They were slow out of the blocks against Collingwood but if they can get off to an early flyer they will be hard to beat in front of their home fans.

Geelong have no immediate injuries out of last week’s game and they regain key forward Tom Hawkins from suspension. Rhys Stanley is also a chance to return.

GWS’ injury list is getting healthier by the week and the Giants will look to bring back Steven Johnson from injury to take on his former side.

Geelong have won five of the seven games between the two sides, while one of the remaining two was a draw. That result came in Round 15 this season as Tom Hawkins missed a tight shot at goal after the siren to level the scores.

The Giants have taken on the Cats twice at Simonds a Stadium for a 10-point loss in Round 11 last year as well as a 65-point defeat back in 2012. The Cats are five from six at the venue this season, while GWS have won four from nine interstate games in 2017. They have won just one out of their four games in Victoria.

Geelong are the $1.48 favourites in the head to head betting with CrownBet and come off an impressive win at their home ground of Simonds Stadium last weekend, defeating the Tigers by 14 points.

They did that without a host of their star players in Joel Selwood, Mitch Duncan and Tom Hawkins, while Patrick Dangerfield and the maligned, Steven Motlop, had big games.

On the same weekend, Collingwood ventured over to Adelaide where they were rolled by finals bound Port Adelaide by 27 points. The Magpies are out of finals contention and are in 13th spot on the ladder but they can trouble the third placed Cats.

Nathan Buckley’s side have a good record against Geelong and rank higher in a number of key areas, including total disposals, uncontested possessions, marks and clearances.

We can expect the likes of Adam Treloar, Taylor Adams and Steele Sidebottom to have plenty of influence in the middle and if they can find the winning formula up forward they are right in it. Ben Reid comes off a four-goal haul last weekend but it wasn’t enough.

At Geelong, look for Patrick Dangerfield to star again, while other key players include Harry Taylor and Zach Tuohy. Taylor got the better of the competition’s bets defender last weekend in Alex Rance, while the former Blue, Tuohy is one of the recruits of the year.

If the Cats get the points here they will be safe and secure in the top four, locking in a double chance. However, if they miss out, they will be opening the door for both Sydney and Port Adelaide and they face a tough contest in the final round next weekend against GWS.

Collingwood’s duo of Jordan De Grey and Will Hoskin- Elliott pulled up sore after the Port Adelaide game and may miss this weekend. Daniel Wells is a chance to come back in.

Geelong are likely to be without Rhys Stanley after the big man hurt his calf last weekend but Mitch Duncan returns from suspension.

This shapes as one of the matches of the round. Geelong will be missing three of their best players but enjoy the home ground advantage and are always tough to beat at the hostile environment of Simonds Stadium regardless of who is in the starting 22.

They have a tremendous record at the venue and their loss to Sydney by 47 points last weekend was their first at Simonds Stadium this season.

On the same weekend, Richmond staked their claims for a top four spot by defeating Hawthorn at the MCG by 29. That effort propelled to yellow and black ahead of the Cats into third position on the ladder. Geelong currently sit in fourth.

Another loss for the Cats will put a severe dent in their hopes of gaining the double chance with the finals just three weeks away.

Their coach, Chris Scott, may have to be creative with his moves on the weekend with Joel Selwood, Mitch Duncan and Tom Hawkins all absent. In the absence of Hawkins, his side may find it tough to score against a Tigers outfit that rank No.1 in the competition for fewest points conceded.

At the other end of the ground, look for Richmond’s small fleet of forwards to apply plenty of pressure on the Cats back six. Their pressure and intensity was a highlight in the win over Hawthorn last weekend.

One of the interesting battles will in the midfield, where we will see Dustin Martin and Patrick Dangerfield go at it. Those two are arguably the best in the competition and while they are unlikely to play directly on one another, the one that has the most influence will likely end up on the winning side.

Geelong have dominated Richmond for the past decade, winning 12 on the trot against the Tigers, a sequence that begun in 2007 when the Cats took out the Round 6 encounter that year by a lazy 157 points.

The most recent clash between the two sides was in Round 21 last season and on that occasion, it was the Cats by four points. Geelong have won the past four between the two sides at Simonds Stadium.

Geelong head into this on the back of a big win over Carlton last weekend and have won three of their past four matches.

At Sydney, the Swans have come from nowhere after dropping their first six games for the year to challenge for the eight. Since that inglorious start they have won all but two of their subsequent 12 games, with those two losses both coming at the hands of Hawthorn.

The Hawks overcame Sydney in a scrappy affair at the MCG last weekend, in a game that saw many of the Swans big names struggle, including Josh Kennedy and Lance Franklin.

Kennedy is in doubt for the match this weekend with a hamstring issue but the biggest news earlier in the week was the suspension of Geelong’s Brownlow Medal winning midfielder, Patrick Dangerfield.

The Cats will have to get the job done without the influential player, who has not missed a game since switching from Adelaide prior to the 2016 season.

Joel Selwood, Mitch Duncan and Cam Guthrie will be asked to pick up the slack and that trio take on the likes of Kennedy, as well as Luke Parker, Daniel Hannebery and Isaac Heeney in the middle of the ground.

Other key players include Lance Franklin for the Swans, while at the other end of the ground, Tom Hawkins will be out to continue his good form after booting six majors last weekend.

A win for Geelong will see them all but sew up a top four spot, while a Sydney victory will mean the Swans are relatively safe inside the top eight. A loss will put their hopes of making the finals in jeopardy.

Geelong are likely to regain Daniel Menzel and Rhys Stanley after that pair were rested last weekend but Nakia Cockatoo will miss with a hamstring.

Sydney have a number of players battling soft tissue injuries including Josh Kennedy, Jake Lloyd, Sam Reid and Gary Rohan. Of that quartet, Rohan and Lloyd are expected to play, while there is some doubt on the availability of the others.

Carlton Blues vs Geelong Cats match will be kickoff at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne, VIC, Australia, Saturday 29 July 2017 online, 19:25 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

The Geelong Cats and Carlton Blues come Sunday’s AFL Round 10 clash after flat matches last round and will be looking to bounce back at Etihad Stadium.

The clash is scheduled to begin at 1.10PM on Sunday afternoon. All the action can be seen on Fox Footy, while AFL Live Vision is also available to ALL CrownBet members. Every Match, wherever you are.

Carlton’s successful winning streak was ended last week after North Melbourne created club history.

An undermanned Carlton were brutality bruised when the Kangaroos defeated the Blues by 67 points at Etihad Stadium with North Melbourne maintaining their unbeaten start to go 9-0.

Carlton had a four game winning streak heading into the game but that was ended spectacularly and now the Blues are out to bounce back when they host the Cats.

Bryce Gibbs, Sam Kerridge and Sam Docherty all finished with 29 possessions for the Blues, but Carlton didn’t have the best of days and will look for an improved effort.

Right from the get go of their Round 9 contest, Geelong were playing catch up. Despite getting close, Collingwood still held off to take the win.

Collingwood dominated the Cats early with a 7.5 to 0.3 opening term and that first quarter effort hurt Geelong for the remainder of the match.

Geelong found themselves in touching distance in the final term but lacked the final kill, but will be expected to make amends against Carlton.

Mitch Duncan had 25 disposals, 8 tackles and a goal for the Cats, and although Patrick Dangerfield didn’t have the best of games he still managed to collect 21 possessions and 7 tackles.

Geelong have certainly got the wood over the Blues in recent encounters, winning the past seven matches. Carlton hasn’t beaten the Cats since Round 5 of the 2010 season at the MCG.

This one shapes as a beauty and it is Adelaide that head in as slight favourite’s in the head to head betting. The Crows have won 12 of their 16 games this season and come off a 46 point win over Melbourne in Darwin.

They head back to the Adelaide Oval where they have made a habit of thumping their interstate opposition this season. They have won all bar two of their nine games at the venue this season with those wins coming at an average margin of 61 points.

Geelong have won six of their past eight games, while drawing one other and come off a three point win over Hawthorn last weekend. The Cats have been well served by Patrick Dangerfield, who booted five against the Hawks and proved to be the match winner.

The former Crow is the $1.80 favourite for the Brownlow but may not play after sustaining a foot injury in the win over Hawthorn. Joel Selwood and Mitch Duncan will need to pick up the slack in the middle of the ground and that pair will take on the likes of Rory Sloane and the Crouch brothers. The battle here will be pivotal to the result.

The Crows rank higher for disposals, contested possession and clearances and if they can get on top, their forwards look set to capitalise. Taylor Walker and Eddie Betts share 3rd spot on the goal-kicking table, while Geelong’s Tom Hawkins and Daniel Menzel are in 11th and 12th position in the race for the Coleman Medal.

Adelaide’s Rory Sloane suffered a concussion last weekend and will be monitored at training, while star defender, Jake Lever, is battling hamstring soreness. Scott Thompson and Troy Menzel are among those that could come in.

Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield is rated just a ‘5%’ chance of playing but was able to play out the game against Hawthorn, dominating in the process. Scott Selwood and Andrew Mackie were late withdrawals against the Hawks and are set to return.

Geelong have a terrific recent record against Adelaide and have won their past five clashes against the Crows, including the only fixture between the two sides at the Adelaide Oval.

The two sides met as recently as Round 11 this season and on that occasion it was a fired up Cats outfit by 22 points at Simonds Stadium.

Brisbane Lions recorded their third win of the season defeating Essendon Bombers at Etihad Stadium last weekend, showing tremendous courage and team spirit.

The Lions stunned the AFL world with an upset eight-point victory despite the Bombers leading at every change before remarkably allowing Brisbane to boot six of the last seven goals of the game to win 13.12 (90) to 11.16 (82).

Ryan Lester took a huge pack mark and booted the go-ahead goal with just under two minutes remaining and, with eight players with fewer than 50 games of experience, the young Lions showed plenty of heart to notch their third win of the season. Dayne Zorko collected 30 disposals and two goals. Sam Mayes and Tom Cutler were also influential for the Lions.

Geelong shared the points with the GWS Giants with the first drawn AFL game since 2015 at Spotless Stadium. Cats forward Tom Hawkins had the chance to win the game after the siren, but his set shot from 30m from a fairly tight angle earned only a behind, which levelled the scores after GWS came from a 20-point deficit early in the fourth quarter to share the spoils.

Patrick Dangerfield had 45 possessions to take the man of the match honors. Sam Menegola was also eye-catching for the Cats.
