Geelong and Sydney are among a number of sides with three wins from the five rounds of football that have been played so far in 2017.

The Cats come off a great win on the road, defeating Port Adelaide by 34 points, while Sydney missed out by 10 points against the Adelaide Crows at the SCG.

Both boast star studded midfield lineups Joel Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield seem to be permanent fixtures in their best players each week but it is the Cats younger brigade of young players that have really stood up. Tim Kelly and Brandon Parfitt are a couple of examples of youngsters that the Cats fans can be excited about.

Sydney’s on-ball division have been slightly below their best. Luke Parker has been solid but Josh Kennedy will need to lift his output if the Swans are to take this out, with their spearhead, Lance Franklin, out with injury.

Buddy has kicked 18 goals this year and will be sorely missed. Isaac Heeney is the Swans next highest contributor with six goals.

Another interesting factor in this game is that little separates the two sides in a number of statistical measures. Geelong enjoy the home ground advantage but the Swans have a great record at the venue. It shapes as a real flip of the coin job.

Geelong thumped Sydney by 59 points in last year’s finals series, sending the Swans out of contention. John Longmire’s side were a tad one-dimensional with Lance Franklin being outnumbered in their forward line before Geelong’s midfielders set up the likes of Patrick Dangerfield (who played up the ground that night) and Daniel Menzel. That par combined for six goals.

Prior to that match, Sydney won three in a row against the Cats and two of those were played at GMHBA Stadium, while the other was in the 2016 Preliminary Final.

The big news here is that Lance Franklin and Daniel Hannebery will miss for Sydney. Joel Selwood has been cleared to play for Geelong but his brother, Scott, may miss after suffering concussion last weekend. Gary Ablett and Tom Hawkins are both a chance to return from injury.

Port Adelaide Power vs Geelong Cats match will be kickoff at Adelaide Oval Stadium, North Adelaide, Australia, Saturday 21 April 2018 online, 19:40 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

Geelong Cats have enjoyed dominance over Port Adelaide and the Power will be out to score a rare victory when the sides meet in AFL Round 5 at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.

It is only one win in the last 14 meetings between the sides for the Power, but with home advantage and every reason to bounce back from last year’s disappointing effort can Port down the Cats?

The game gets underway at 7.40pm AEST (7.10pm local) and will be broadcast on Channel 7 and Fox Footy.

Port Adelaide saw their unbeaten start to the season end last week when they were beaten by Essendon Bombers and returning to Adelaide Oval they will be looking to make amends for that performance.

The bad news for Power fans and coach Ken Hinckley is the fact the opposition is Geelong Cats, a side Port have only managed to defeat once in the last 14 meetings.

The Cats well and truly have the wood over Power in recent times and Geelong head to South Australia having returned to winning ways last week to go 2-2 for the season after comfortably defeating St Kilda last weekend.

The big question is how Power respond to last week’s performance. If they are back to their best, they can edge this one. The Cats look like a team you need to catch on their day and this might be a rare off one against Port.

I expect Port Adelaide to collect the competition points, but taking the Tri-Bet option for either side by Under 15.5 is the best call in this one.

The last game for round 4 is a twilight clash down at Geelong, where the Saints will be attempting to win there for the first time in almost 20 years. Both sides have had poor starts to the season, and are in desperate need of a jump-start. The Cats lose the little master, Gary Ablett, to a hamstring injury; but the loss of Cam Guthrie from the backline (and the luckless Nakia Cockatoo) is immense given lack of experience down back. Can St. Kilda push the Cats all the way, and learn how to kick in front of goal?

Geelong (WLL) – Geelong have been very poor to start the season, and they are very lucky not to be sitting 0-3. Too much has been left to Selwood, Ablett and Dangerfield, and Chris Scott will be very disappointed with the number of passengers. They won’t get many better chances to kickstart their season than taking on a poor Saints side in Geelong, though.

St. Kilda (WLL) – There aren’t enough adjectives in the world to describe how poor the Saints have been in the past fortnight. They have kicked 12.26, and have barely given a whimper against the Roos and Crows. Jack Steven has been gallant, but too many of his teammates are guilty of poor work-rate and horrid execution.

The Cats have started 2018 quite poorly, but the Wolf is expecting their season to kick into gear down in Geelong on Sunday. The line (+28.5) for St. Kilda looks quite generous given the key outs for Geelong, and the Wolf is expecting them to stay reasonably close, but there is a clear gulf in class across all the lines and Geelong should be too strong for the Saints.

West Coast Eagles vs Geelong Cats match will be kickoff at Perth Stadium, Perth, Western Australia, Australia, Sunday 08 April 2018 online, 16:40 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

AFL Footy Live Stream

The West Coast Eagles will be trying to notch their first victory at Optus Stadium on Sunday Afternoon. They face Geelong who has been involved in two nail-biters already this season.

If the first two rounds are any indication, this could be a very entertaining match. All the action can be seen live on Fox Footy from 4:30pm (AEST).

In the absence of Star forward Josh Kennedy, fellow key forward Jack Darling has announced himself as a legitimate Star for the West Coast Eagles. Darling booted four goals on Sunday Afternoon against the Western Bulldogs.

It was simply a training drill for the Eagles, as they recorded a rare victory on the road. The Eagles kicked 15 goals to 6 after quarter time and were simply far too good for the Dogs, who have lost their identity since winning the Grand Final only 18 months ago.

Young speedster Liam Ryan gave Eagles supporters plenty to get excited about. In only his second game, Ryan has already been nominated for mark and goal of the year. Ryan kicked three goals against the Dogs, notching six scoring shots from 14 possessions.

Geelong escaped with the four points against Melbourne in Round 1, following a late miss from ruckman Max Gawn that would’ve given Melbourne the victory. The same fortunes couldn’t be repeated in Round 2.

The Easter Monday game between Geelong and Hawthorn is always a classic. The 2018 edition was no exception, with the game already being labelled as the match of the season. It was an epic shootout with plenty of momentum swings.

Hawthorn held a 25-point lead midway through the final term, but you always knew the Cats would claw their way back, they always do against Hawthorn. Led by the midfield of Dangerfield, Ablett and Selwood, the Cats kicked the last four goals of the game to level the score with only minutes remaining. It wasn’t enough as Roughead marked inside 50 and kicked the winning behind.

AFL Live Geelong Cats vs Hawthorn Hawks Streaming Free 2018 Regular Seasons week 02 match will be kick off at MCG Stadium, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, Monday 02 Apri 2018 online, 15:20 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

The modern-day rivals of the AFL, Geelong and Hawthorn, meet in the final game of Round 2 in the traditional Easter Monday clash at the MCG.

Both sides come off wins in Round 1 and the action gets underway at 3.20PM. Channel 7 and Fox Footy will broadcast the game.

Geelong have been posted as favourites in early markets and come off a thrilling win over Melbourne last weekend when the Demons big man, Max Gawn, missed a goal in the dying seconds to gift the Cats a three-point win.

Hawthorn enjoyed a slightly more comfortable victory by defeating Collingwood in their season opener by 34 points. Tom Mitchell was the star for the Hawks and picked up an AFL record of 54 possessions.

He was assisted in the midfield by Jaegar O’Meara, who was brilliant early on in the game and the battle between the Hawks on-ballers and Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield, Gary Ablett and Joel Selwood shapes as a beauty.

Dangerfield missed the Cats win last weekend but Ablett and Selwood were brilliant. The Cats were also dangerous in their forward line and slammed on 12 goals in the first half, with Daniel Menzel booting four for the game.

The Cats have been very efficient inside their forward 50 and the Hawks defenders will need to be on the ball. James Sicily and James Frawley will both have key roles in that part of the ground for the brown and gold.

Expect these two sides to go helter-skelter early on and the team that can manage their weary legs late in the game will get up in what should be another tight contest at the MCG.

AFL Live Melbourne Demons vs Geelong Cats Streaming Free 2018 Regular Seasons week 01 match will be kick off at MCG Stadium, Melbourne, VIC, Australia, Sunday 25 March 2018 online, 15:20 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

One of the most intriguing games of the opening weekend of the AFL home and away season will be when Melbourne take on Geelong on Sunday afternoon, March 25, at the MCG.

The 3.20PM clash shapes as one that could go either way and the action will be shown live on Channel 7 and Fox Sports. AFL Live Vision is also available to ALL CrownBet members. Every Match, wherever you are.

Melbourne looked sharp in the recent JLT Series, defeating North Melbourne by 53 points in their opening game before accounting for St Kilda to the tune of 26 points. The Demons did allow the Saints back into the game in the third term before breaking away. They will need to keep their foot on the pedal to defeat Geelong in this one.

The Cats were slightly disappointing in their two games, going down to Gold Coast by 56 points and Essendon by four. They were understrength in both of those and are likely to be without a couple of big names on the weekend once again, with Patrick Dangerfield and Gary Ablett in doubt.

In terms of 2017 results, Geelong were the superior side and finished 2nd on the ladder at seasons end before bowing out to Adelaide in the Preliminary Final. Melbourne showed some promise but frustrated their fans yet again by finishing 9th after going down to Collingwood in Round 23.

The Demons have a number of players that look to be in excellent form and have used the ball very well in their hit outsf to date. They have key players in a number of areas. Max Gawn should get on top in the ruck while Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca can capitalise in the middle. Jake Lever looks to be a superb addition and will provide plenty of influence across halfback.

On paper, Melbourne look the team to beat here but they have a terrible record against Geelong and we can’t underestimate the Cats. Despite their injury concerns they do have plenty of classy contributors that will ensure this goes right down to the wire.

Their evergreen skipper, Joel Selwood, has been prominent in the JLT and was excellent against the Demons last year, while Mitch Duncan, Tom Hawkins and Daniel Menzel are others that are shaping up well.

Adelaide finished on top of the ladder at the end of the home and away season and advanced through to the Prelim after demolishing GWS in week one of the finals by 36 points.

Geelong finished in 2nd position after the regular season but experienced a hiccup in their corresponding game in the first week, going down to Richmond by 51. However, the Cats bounced back in emphatic fashion by knocking over the highly fancied Sydney outfit by 59 points last weekend.

The Crows have had the benefit of a week off, as well as the home ground advantage, and have been posted at the odds of $1.38 in the early head to head betting with CrownBet, while Geelong are at $3.10.

Adelaide’s strengths have been well documented and they were the highest scoring side during the home and away season, averaging 109 points per game. Eddie Betts, Taylor Walker and Josh Jenkins feature in the top 18 players for goals scored this season and are sure to be prominent throughout the night.

However, Geelong looked formidable in attack last week with the former Crow, and reigning Brownlow Medalist, Patrick Dangerfield leading the way with four goals.

It will be interesting to see if Dangerfield lines up in the forward line again. Geelong may go conservative and start the champ in the middle, but his presence in front of goal adds plenty of X-factor and frees up the likes of Tom Hawkins and Daniel Menzel.

In the middle of the ground, Rory Sloane and the Crouch brothers take on the likes of Geelong’s skipper, Joel Selwood, as well as Mitch Duncan and Sam Menegola.

Geelong finished in 2nd position on the AFL ladder at the end of the home and away season but were shell-shocked in the first week of the finals, going down to Richmond by 51 points in the Qualifying Final.

They face a fight for survival against Sydney, who were far too classy for Essendon in the Elimination Final, defeating the Bombers by 65 points.

The Swans were 6th at the conclusion of the regular year but have won 15 of their last 17 and head into this as $1.40 favourites in the early head to head betting with CrownBet.

John Longmire’s midfield contingent were brutal against Essendon, while Lance Franklin put on a bit of a show up forward, booting four goals.

Geelong have some work to do to turn things around but the good news for Cats fans is that, historically, sides that lose Qualifying Finals tend to bounce back in the Semis. Another positive is that Geelong rank well in a number of statistical measures compared to the Swans.

Chris Scott’s side just shade Sydney in the disposal and contested possession count this season, while they have also been better at winning the clearances.

Patrick Dangerfield is sure to have an influence, while Joel Selwood should be a bit of an improver after producing a sub-par performance in his return from injury last week. Mitch Duncan shapes as an important player, while Sam Menegola is another that needs to lift.

That quartet face the likes of Josh Kennedy, Daniel Hannebery, Luke Parker and Kieren Jack in the middle of the ground and will need big games if their side are to cause an upset.

However, there are plenty of other factors that would point to a Sydney win. The Swans seem to have too much depth around the ground and are in the better form at this time of the year. They also have a terrific recent record over Geelong.

This shapes as an absolute beauty and not much separates the sides in the CrownBet head to head betting. Geelong are currently a $1.75 favourite ahead of Richmond at $2.10.

The Cats won their last three games of the home and away season, including the Round 21 clash at Simonds Stadium against Richmond by 14 points. They then defeated Collingwood at the MCG by 11 points before touching up GWS to the tune of 44 in Round 23.

Following their loss to Geelong in Round 21, the Tigers responded in style by chalking up two big wins over Fremantle and St Kilda. They have won six of their past seven and should be better suited at the MCG.

Damien Hardwick’s side will be looking to bury some recent September ghosts and will not only need big games from Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin, Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt but a host of their younger players as well.

Daniel Rioli and Jason Castagna are among a number of players that are making their finals debut and this duo will look to put a stack of pressure on the opposition defenders, something that has been a hallmark of the 2017 Tigers.

At Geelong, we can expect big games from seasoned champions in Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood, while the likes of Sam Menegola and Mitch Duncan will complement that duo beautifully in the midfield.

The clash in this part of the ground will be mouth-watering, particularly with the likes of Dangerfield and Martin going head to head. Geelong rank slightly higher for contested possessions and clearances, but the Tigers are the better defensive side.

Of interest will be the plan that Chris Scott has in store for Alex Rance. The key Tigers defender had a rare poor game the last time the two sides met, with Harry Taylor taking the points. Rance will either line up on Taylor again or Tom Hawkins, who was absent the last time the two sides met.

Richmond will be out to break one of the longest hoodoo’s in modern day football as they have not beaten Geelong since 2006. The Cats have won the past 13 clashes between the two sides, including the Round 21 encounter this season by 14 points at Simonds Stadium.

Five of the 13 games in the Cats winning streak have been held at the MCG. The two sides last squared off in in a final way back in 1995 and on that occasion, it was Geelong by 89 points.

Both sides sit safely inside the top four and have secured the double chance. They seem destined to play successive matches against each other with the winner of this clash possibly set to host the other side in a Qualifying Final in a fortnight’s time.

GWS are second on the ladder and Geelong are third. The highest ranked side will host a final later on, with their opponents to be determined by some of the other results over the weekend.

The Giants defeated West Coast in their Round 22 clash by 21 points but head in as slight underdogs in the head to head betting with CrownBet. Geelong come off an 11-point win over Collingwood at the MCG and have won three of their past four. Their only loss in that time period came at Simonds Stadium against Sydney.

The battle between the respective midfields shapes as a beauty. Patrick Dangerfield looms as a match winner for the home side and with Mitch Duncan, Scott Selwood and Sam Menegola in the line-up the Cats will look to thwart the likes of Josh Kelly, Lachie Whitfield, Callan Ward and Tom Scully.

Both sides are among the top echelon of sides when it comes to scoring and Toby Greene, Jeremy Cameron and Jonathan Patton loom as key options for the Giants, while at the other end it will be Tom Hawkins and Daniel Menzel that will be the focal points for Geelong.

A key for Geelong will be getting off to a fast start. They were slow out of the blocks against Collingwood but if they can get off to an early flyer they will be hard to beat in front of their home fans.

Geelong have no immediate injuries out of last week’s game and they regain key forward Tom Hawkins from suspension. Rhys Stanley is also a chance to return.

GWS’ injury list is getting healthier by the week and the Giants will look to bring back Steven Johnson from injury to take on his former side.

Geelong have won five of the seven games between the two sides, while one of the remaining two was a draw. That result came in Round 15 this season as Tom Hawkins missed a tight shot at goal after the siren to level the scores.

The Giants have taken on the Cats twice at Simonds a Stadium for a 10-point loss in Round 11 last year as well as a 65-point defeat back in 2012. The Cats are five from six at the venue this season, while GWS have won four from nine interstate games in 2017. They have won just one out of their four games in Victoria.
