After squandering their Round 8 clash in the dying stages to Sydney, Hawthorn will be out to atone for that defeat when they travel to Brisbane to take on the Brisbane Lions on Sunday May 20.
The 3.20PM clash is one of three AFL games for the day and the action can be seen live on Channel 7 and Fox Sports.
Hawthorn have been the superior side thus far in 2018, winning five of eight, while the Brisbane Lions are yet to register a win.
The Hawks come off a narrow loss to the Sydney Swans in Round 8 in what was regarded as one of the games of the season, going down to the likely top four side by eight points.
Alistair Clarkson’s side will jump as favourites in this one but Brisbane will be no easybeats, despite their win-loss record and standing on the ladder.
The Lions are winless and in bottom spot but they have been competitive in a number of games this season and at their last appearance at the GABBA, they were narrow losers to Collingwood in what was a quality affair in Round 7. They have since gone down to the Western Bulldogs by 14 points at Etihad Stadium in Round 8.
An added dimension to this clash is that it will be the first appearance of the former Hawthorn hero, and three time premiership winning skipper, Luke Hodge, against his former side.
The two time Norm Smith Medalist transferred from the Hawks to the Lions at the end of 2017 and has added some much needed experience to the Brisbane Lions back half. In another connection between the two clubs, the current Brisbane coach, Chris Fagan, was a long standing lieutenant for the Hawks coach, Alistair Clarkson, during the Hawks dominant era from 2008 to 2015.
Hawthorn dominate Brisbane in a number of statistical measures. They rank higher at winning the contested possessions and clearances, while their forward line boasts two of the competition’s leading goal kickers in Luke Breust and Jack Gunston.
However, the Lions have a number of younger players that are showing some promise and with the likes of Dayne Zorko, Stefan Martin, Charlie Cameron and Mitch Robinson in the line up they are a chance in front of their home fans.
