One of the key games of AFL Round 16 will be when St Kilda take on the Richmond Tigers at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
The two sides currently sit in the eight, with the 4th placed Tigers just shading the 8th placed Saints and the action gets underway at 7.25PM AEST.
Channel 7 and Fox Footy will broadcast the game, while AFL Live Vision is also available to ALL CrownBet members. Every Match, wherever you are.
This one should be full of intrigue and it is Richmond that has been posted as $1.50 favourites in the head to head betting with CrownBet.
Damien Hardwick’s side have won nine from 14, one more win than St Kilda, who have won eight matches this season.
The Saints have won three on the trot, including a nine point win on the road against Fremantle last weekend, while Richmond have won their past two and also come off an interstate win, accounting for Port Adelaide by 13 points in Round 15.
Dustin Martin enjoyed another huge game for the Tigers in the win over the Power, compiling 36 disposals, as well as a host of his trademark ‘don’t argue’s’ and shapes as one of the major influences this weekend, alongside skipper Trent Cotchin and the key defender, Alex Rance.
Rance will most likely line up on Josh Bruce, who is the Saints leading goalscorer with 23 majors this season. At the other end of the ground, look for Jack Riewoldt to be prominent. The cousin of St Kilda’s champion veteran, Nick Riewoldt, Jack sits in 5th position on the goal-kicking table with 35 goals this year.
Both sides rank similarly in a host of key measures but one area that St Kilda may enjoy the advantage in is winning the uncontested possession count. The Saints are 4th in the competition for total uncontested possessions, while the Tigers are last.
Sebastian Ross and Jack Steven are the Saints chief ball winners, combining for an average of 56 touches per game this year.
A win for either side is vital, given the tightness of the competition this season. Richmond will maintain their spot inside the top four if they win, while St Kilda could climb as high as 6th at the conclusion of the round, but could fall to 10th if they drop the four points.
