The St Kilda Saints take on the GWS Giants at Etihad Stadium on Saturday April 21 at 1:45pm in a crucial Round 5 match.

All the action can be seen Live on Fox Footy from 1:30pm.

After a Round 1 victory against the Brisbane Lions, nothing has gone right for St Kilda. With Finals expectations on Alan Richardson and his men, the Saints have not performed anywhere near there best.

Saints coach Alan Richardson spoke openly on AFL360 Monday Night, saying too many of his players are out of form and his squad are not playing up to expectations.

The Saints faced a desperate Geelong team on their home deck on Sunday Afternoon and it showed, with the Cats pressure through the roof, the Saints had no answers. This was a subject that Richardson also alluded to on AFL360 “We didn’t cope with the Cats pressure well at all” Richardson said.

At 1-3, the Saints season is slowly slipping away. There inability to hit the scoreboard is concern number one. After scoring 107 points in their Round 1 victory over Brisbane, the Saints have been woeful. Round 2 vs North Melbourne (43 points), Round 3 vs Adelaide (55 Points) and Round 4 vs Geelong (56 Points).

The GWS Giants have had a pleasing start to 2018, with their only loss coming against Sydney at the SCG. The Giants dominated the Dockers on Saturday in gale force winds in Canberra. The Giants won 82-51 and had 27 scoring shots to 16, despite Fremantle having 3 more inside 50’s for the match.

Callan Ward starred for the Giants, racking up 34 disposals while Jeremy Cameron had 20 touches, 12 marks and two goals. Veteran Ryan Griffen made his long-awaited return to the Giants, he had 11 disposals and booted two goals.

The last game for round 4 is a twilight clash down at Geelong, where the Saints will be attempting to win there for the first time in almost 20 years. Both sides have had poor starts to the season, and are in desperate need of a jump-start. The Cats lose the little master, Gary Ablett, to a hamstring injury; but the loss of Cam Guthrie from the backline (and the luckless Nakia Cockatoo) is immense given lack of experience down back. Can St. Kilda push the Cats all the way, and learn how to kick in front of goal?

Geelong (WLL) – Geelong have been very poor to start the season, and they are very lucky not to be sitting 0-3. Too much has been left to Selwood, Ablett and Dangerfield, and Chris Scott will be very disappointed with the number of passengers. They won’t get many better chances to kickstart their season than taking on a poor Saints side in Geelong, though.

St. Kilda (WLL) – There aren’t enough adjectives in the world to describe how poor the Saints have been in the past fortnight. They have kicked 12.26, and have barely given a whimper against the Roos and Crows. Jack Steven has been gallant, but too many of his teammates are guilty of poor work-rate and horrid execution.

The Cats have started 2018 quite poorly, but the Wolf is expecting their season to kick into gear down in Geelong on Sunday. The line (+28.5) for St. Kilda looks quite generous given the key outs for Geelong, and the Wolf is expecting them to stay reasonably close, but there is a clear gulf in class across all the lines and Geelong should be too strong for the Saints.

What an intruding Round 3 matchup. St Kilda will be looking to bounce back after their horror loss on Good Friday against an injury-riddled Adelaide Crows at Etihad Stadium on Saturday Night.

With the Commonwealth Games on Channel 7, the action can be seen on 7mate or Fox Footy live from 7:00pm (AEST).

What a difference two weeks can make in football. Before the season started, this St Kilda v Adelaide matchup would’ve probably been considered as the match of the round, with heavy finals expectations placed on this Saints squad.

To show just how highly this match was rated, it was giving the free to air nod, ahead of the Sydney Derby, which has been pushed to Fox Footy.

The Saints ‘got away’ with a win in Round 1 against the Brisbane Lions, thanks in no small part to gun midfielder Jack Steven, who finished with a game-high 34 possessions and two goals.

The Saints were expected to score an easy win on Good Friday against North Melbourne. With only one match on Good Friday, there were plenty of eyeballs on the match. I’m comfortable saying the first half was the worst half of football I’ve ever watched. Only four goals were scored and many people watching, didn’t bother with the second half.

North Melbourne raised their level in the second half, while the Saints continued to make basic skill errors. Most disappointing for Alan Richardson, the Saints didn’t put any pressure on the Roos, in what was a dismal 52-point defeat.

The Adelaide Crows had a chip on their shoulder against Richmond in Round 2. The Crows were undermanned due to injury, but had something to prove after the happenings in September last year.

Rory Laird and Josh Jenkins were the stars for the Crows. Laird dominated, racking up 42 possessions. Much was made after Jenkins ‘went missing’ in the Grand Final. He bounced back well, booting five goals while Tex Walker kicked four in his first game back from injury.

AFL on Good Friday sees North Melbourne take on St Kilda in what is an important early season fixture for both sides after some mixed results last weekend.

The Saints head in as favourites for the 4.20PM clash and the action can be seen on Channel 7 and Fox Footy. Here is our preview of the Round 2 encounter.

North Melbourne went down to the Gold Coast Suns in tough conditions in Cairns last weekend and face the six-day backup.

The Kangaroos stuck with the Suns but were overrun late in the game, losing that contest by 16 points.

St Kilda took on the competition’s other Queensland based side, Brisbane, and kicked the last four goals of the game to run out 25 point winners. The Saints have been installed as $1.40 favourites in early markets with CrownBet for this.

Alan Richardson’s side should have an edge in the midfield. Jack Steven, Blake Acres and Seb Ross all come off 30+ possession games, while Jack Billings and Jade Gresham will provide plenty of spark up forward.

The Kangaroos may get some ascendancy in the ruck with Todd Goldstein back in some form, while the likes of Jack Ziebell, Shaun Higgins and Ben Cunnington will need big games if theyare to challenge the Saints.

Ben Brown and Jarad Waite are a couple of players that should appreciate the firmer surface of Etihad Stadium. Both were held goalless in the soggy conditions at Cairns last weekend and are capable of kicking multiple goals.

AFL Live St Kilda Saints vs Brisbane Lions Streaming Free 2018 Regular Seasons week 01 match will be kick off at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne, VIC, Australia, Saturday 24 March 2018 online, 15:35 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

St Kilda has expectation on their shoulders in 2018 and will be looking to start the season with a bang against the Brisbane Lions at Etihad Stadium on Saturday March 24.

St Kilda head into the clash against the Lions as hot favourites. All the action can be seen on Fox Sports 3 at 3:30pm.

The Saints have returned to their spiritual home Moorabbin just in time for the 2018 season. The timing is fitting for the Saints, their last season at Moorabbin was back in 2009. They finished on top of the AFL ladder with 20 wins and very nearly won a premiership before moving to Seaford in 2010.

After the retirements of Nick Riewoldt and Leigh Montagna last season, that era is now over. It’s a new beginning for the young squad led by coach Alan Richardson. The expectation by Media and Saints fans alike, is that the Saints will play Finals footy in 2018.

This young Saints squad has shown terrific progression under Richardson in his four years at the helm. They finished with only 4 wins in 2014, 6 wins in 2015, 12 wins in 2016 and 11 wins last season.

The Saints dropped both their JLT matches, losing by 22 points to Carlton and 26 points against the Dees. The Lions also dropped both their matches, losing by 55 points against the Swans and taking a narrow seven-point loss over the Gold Coast Suns. The Lions kicked 4 goals and 18 behinds, finishing with eight more scoring shots than the Suns.

The Brisbane Lions are finally going in the right direction with their young talent, however Lions fans should expect another tough year, with the roster still needing time to develop.

It was a volatile off season for the Lions, who lost former captain Tom Rockliff to Port Adelaide and former number two draft pick Josh Schache to the Western Bulldogs. The Lions did pick up retired Hawthorn legend Luke Hodge, who will help the young Lions growth tremendously.

Like the state-of-the-art facilities under construction at Moorabbin, St Kilda’s first round picks from the 2017 draft are a work in progress.

The Saints are hopeful that staff and players will move into their upgraded Moorabbin base by Easter at the earliest – which can’t come soon enough given players were getting changed in portables covered in graffiti at training on Wednesday.

But luckily Hunter Clark (pick No.7) and Nick Coffield (pick No.8) look a lot better than those portables, so much so that they’ve been named to play against Carlton in the Saints’ JLT Community Series opener at Ikon Park on Wednesday.

And it’ll be a game full of top-end draft talent, with Carlton selecting Paddy Dow (pick No.3) and Lochie O’Brien (pick No.10) to play, meaning four of 2017’s top 10 picks could be on show on Wednesday.

All four draftees played in their clubs’ respective AFLX encounters earlier in February with Dow arguably putting in the best performance during that carnival.

The Saints will also welcome back David Armitage and Paddy McCartin to their side. Armitage only played two games in 2017 (rounds one and four) due to a groin injury while McCartin could only manage five due to ongoing concussion concerns, the last of which came in round 12.

McCartin has been concussed on six occasions, the last of which was in June, ending his 2017 season. The power forward suffered a foot strain during pre-season training in November. Prior to the foot strain he had run a personal best time in the club’s 3km time trial.

AFL Live Richmond Tigers vs St Kilda Saints Streaming Free 2017 Regular Seasons Round 23 match will be kick off at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, VIC, Australia, Sunday 27 August 2017 online, 15:20 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.

Richmond Tigers can secure a top four spot and the double chance with victory over a St Kilda side who could still have something to play for themselves at the MCG on Sunday afternoon.

The all-important game gets underway at 3.20pm AEST and will be broadcast on Channel 7 and Fox Sports. AFL Live Vision is also available to ALL CrownBet members. Every Match, wherever you are.

A top four spot is Richmond’s to lose as the Tigers prepare to sign off the home and away season when they face St Kilda at the MCG.

Victory over the Saints will guarantee Richmond a top four berth and the all-important double chance, but it won’t be as simple as that with St Kilda still potentially having something to play for as they look to sneak into the top eight.

Saints kept those hopes alive last week when defeating North Melbourne but they need a host of other results to go their way before taking to the MCG to face Richmond.

By the time the game gets underway, the Tigers could find themselves in sixth spot if both Sydney Swans and Port Adelaide expectedly win their games against Carlton and Gold Coast Suns on Saturday.

But the task remains the same for Damien Hardwick’s side regardless of those results – win and they finish in the top four.

Richmond will also be out for revenge for the 67-point defeat they suffered at the hands of the Saints in Round 16 and they should get it.

St Kilda are in 11th spot with a 10-10 record and a need to win their final two games to be any hope of finals football. The Saints rank 11th in scoring and 10th in defence. St Kilda have faded badly with just one win in their last five games, heading into this off a poor loss to Melbourne. The Saints have been held to 72 or fewer in four of their last five.

North Melbourne are 16th on the ladder with a 5-15 record. They rank 10th in scoring but 16th in defence. The Kangaroos have won just one of their last 10 matches, a stirring victory over Top 8 team Melbourne. North have conceded 107 or more points in six of their last eight games.

St Kilda have won five from 11 this season, just one extra win than North, who sit with a win-loss record of 4-7.

The Saints were sitting pretty at 5-3 before going down to Sydney, the Western Bulldogs and Adelaide in recent weeks. Those losses have come at an average margin of 49 points.

North Melbourne’s recent form reads slightly better. The Kangaroos lost their first five games of the year but since then they have gone 4-2. But their most recent fixture was a 35-point loss to Richmond.

Little separates the two sides in the early head-to-head betting and both have been posted at $1.90 by CrownBet.

St Kilda should get their hands on the football more than North Melbourne. The Saints like to play a quick and uncontested brand of football and rank 4th in the competition for uncontested possessions, while the Roos are 15th. St Kilda are 6th for average disposals, while the Kangas are 14th.

However, North are a slightly better clearance side and may have an advantage in the big man department. They rank 5th for hitouts and 6th for marks inside 50, while the Saints are 14th and 8th in these measures.

Todd Goldstein should give his side first use in the middle of the ground, while Ben Brown and Mason Wood loom as keys in the Kangaroos forward half.

At the other end, St Kilda will need to sort out their goalkicking issues. Their forward line has been a little dysfunctional of late and they have managed to boot just seven goals in each of their past two games.

While Josh Bruce booted four goals in his return last weekend, the combination involving Paddy McCartin and Tim Membrey hasn’t really been a hit of late.

St Kilda kept their finals hopes alive last week with a plucky victory over West Coast Eagles, but face an equally crucial showdown when they take on Melbourne Demons at the MCG.

Last week’s win left Saints in 11th on the ladder, one place behind the Demons who slipped to 10th after a disappointing loss to the GWS Giants.

Both sides have a 10-9 record for the campaign and know nothing short of victory will do when they go head to head on Sunday afternoon.

The Demons won when the two sides met in Round 1 earlier this year, ending a run of 14 straight defeats in matches against the Saints.

But the Dees come into this after back-to-back losses and a run of just two wins in six – form which has resulted in them slipping out of the top 8.

St Kilda had also threatened to fade away tamely this year but last weekend’s victory over the Eagles snapped a three-game losing streak and revived hopes of making the finals. Can they now repeat it this Sunday?

The Demons’ bid to arrest the slide sees four changes with Sam Frost, Christian Salem, Corey Maynard and Jack Watts all omitted. Mitch Hannan, Angus Brayshaw, Sam Weideman and Josh Wagner return in their places.

Saints lose Nick Reiwoldt due to concussion with Sam Gilbert coming into the side in the only change.

With both St Kilda and West Coast Eagles challenging for places in the top eight heading into the final month of the home and away season, this game couldn’t be more crucial for both sides.

Saints suffered a heartbreaking two-point defeat to Port Adelaide last week to drop to 9-9 for the season, while the Eagles’ comprehensive victory over the Brisbane Lions gave them the upper hand as they moved to 10-8.

This game, therefore, is more important for the Saints, who would slip to two games adrift of a finals spot should they be on the wrong side of the result against West Coast.

It is a run of three straight defeats that has turned the pressure on Alan Richardson’s St Kilda side and the Saints are finding scoring hard to come by of late.

They will need to be much more efficient in front of goal if they are to defeat West Coast, who have won the last eight meetings between the two sides including a 19-point victory in Round 2 earlier this year.

The Eagles are not the best travellers but those eight wins over the Saints include three in Melbourne and they might well represent the value given St Kilda’s struggles in recent weeks.

Nick Reiwoldt returns for St Kilda and Koby Stevens also comes into the side in place of Jack Lonie and Daniel McKenzie.

Sam Mitchell lines up for West Coast in the week he announced his retirement. The Eagles do lose Tom Barrass to injury with Chris Masten returning in his place.
