AFL Live GWS Giants vs Geelong Cats Stream AFL 2017 Regular Seasons Round 15 match will be kick off at Spotless Stadium, Sydney Olympic Park, New South Wales, Australia, Saturday 01 July 2017 online, 19:25 pm (AEDT) and its broadcast on Channel Seven, Foxtell.
The Giants is likely to start favourite against Geelong, which will be the first time in their history. They have won their last two whilst the Cats are looking to build on their gritty win over the Bulldogs.
The Cats bounced back from a two game losing streak with a close win over the Dogs to be 11th on the ladder, just one game out of the eight. They rank 13th for points scored and 8th for least points conceded though they have played one less game than everyone. They are just 4-3 (3-4 against the line) vs bottom-ten teams this season. The Giants have turned it around in the last two weeks with good wins over St Kilda and Gold Coast which followed three straight losses. They are fifth in scoring and ninth for most points conceded this season. GWS is 7-1 (5-3 against the line) vs bottom ten teams this season.
GWS are the current ladder leaders and have won 10 games, while Geelong are in 3rd position with nine wins from their 13 matches to date.
Both sides head in with winning form. The Giants won their Round 14 encounter against Brisbane by 60 points, while Geelong held on in a thrilling finish against Freo, finishing two points in front as the siren sounded.
The Cats are $3.25 underdogs in the head to head betting with CrownBet, while the home side has been posted as $1.35 favourites’. GWS have won four from four at Spotless Stadium in season 2017 but two of those have been by just three points. Their most recent encounter at the venue saw them get up over Essendo by 16 points.
Geelong have ventured interstate on three occasions in 2017. Two of those were trips to Domain Stadium in Perth, where they enjoyed a win over Fremantle in Round 1 before dropping their Round 13 encounter to West Coast by 13 points. Their other was a loss to Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium in Round 7
A highlight of this weekend’s game will be the battle in the middle of the ground. Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield, Joel Selwood and Mitch Duncan take on the likes of Dylan Shiel, Callan Ward and Lachie Whitfield and the battle here will be pivotal.
GWS are ranked 1st for clearances but they are 9th for contested possessions, while Geelong are 5th and 4th in these measures. The Giants rank higher in a number of other measures such as hitouts and inside 50s. Both sides are averaging a tick over 100 points per game.
The Giants may just have more options up forward with Jeremy Cameron, Jonathan Patton and Toby Greene all in fine form. That trio combined for 12 goals last weekend and Cameron leads the goal-kicking table with 39 majors for the year.
Geelong have lost to GWS just once since the Giants entered the competition in 2012, with that defeat coming at Spotless Stadium in Round 2 last season by 13 points.
The two sides met later in the year at Simonds Stadium in Geelong and the Cats were able to reverse that result at their home ground, recording a 10-point win.
